Pre-professional Institute

Grade 9 | By audition only
This four-year program prepares young actors for college and professional theatre careers. Highlights include: intensive acting and musical theatre training with industry professionals, annual spring showcase, mainstage audition opportunities, mentorship from CTC artists, college-audition preparation, and capstone project tailored to student’s strengths and learning goals.

Each fall and winter students take a weekly class with their cohort focusing on a different skill each year. In the spring students prepare a showcase highlighting their progress. Each year students also choose one elective course tailored to their personal performance goals. During the final year, students spend the fall preparing for college auditions and the spring creating a capstone project based on the cohort’s strengths and interests.

In addition to their course work, Institute members will spend 10 hours each year building their resume through job-shadowing and hands-on opportunities in Education, Stage Management, Marketing, Production, and other areas of a professional theatre. Throughout the year, students will be asked to evaluate themselves and have opportunities to have their work viewed and assessed by their peers, professional instructors, and members of CTC’s artistic team.

Year One will focus on Acting Technique culminating in a studio performance of one-act plays. For more information contact Director of Theatre Arts Training, Ellie McKay at 612.879.5699.
