THEATRE ARTS TRAINING Junior Internships for High School Students
Children’s Theatre Company is looking for a few extraordinary high school students to assist with Theatre Arts Training classes during the 2016-2017 academic year. If you are planning on a career in theatre, this is your chance to work and learn alongside our veteran teaching staff and industry professionals here at CTC. This aggressively hands-on junior internship will have you immersed in theatre, working directly with students in one of our many Theatre Arts Training classes. (Classes take place on weekday evenings or Saturdays.)

Junior Interns recieve special benefits such as select free TAT Classes, free ticket offers to local theatre, and opportunities for master classes with industry professionals. NEIGHBORHOOD BRIDGES Junior Internships for High School Students
As part of the Center for Innovation in Theatre Education, the Neighborhood Bridges program internships are designed for students who are interested in how storytelling, theatre and creative writing are used to empower students to become animators of their own lives.

Learning projects/events may include: Bridges Day, scenic artist sessions, the Crossing Bridges Festival, Bridges conference and assessments and evaluation projects with the Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement at the University of Minnesota. The Interns will observe the Community Engagement team (Neighborhood Bridges Program Director, Director of Community Engagement, Community Engagement Manager, and East Metro Coordinator) as well as the Bridges teaching artist staff.

Neighborhood Bridges Interns must be available during the school day and able to travel to off-site meetings and programs. PRODUCTION JOB SHADOWING OPPORTUNITIES 
Ever wonder what happens backstage to make all the magic happen? Children's Theatre Company is proud to offer job shadow opportunities to teens seeking to learn more about professional theatre production. Job shadows are available in many departments including Stage Management, Lighting Design, Sound Design and more! Please email Production Stage Manager, Jenny Friend at jfriend@childrenstheatre.org and include the following information: 

  • what area of production or job you would like to shadow. 
  • what you hope to learn from this experience. 
  • your availability including dates and times. 

Volunteer USHERS

We need friendly and outgoing people who love theatre to help us ensure that everyone coming to our plays have a great time!
Volunteer usher responsibilities may include:

  • Greeting patrons
  • Passing out programs
  • Helping seat patrons
  • Taking tickets
  • Guarding the stage
  • Helping our staff tidy up the theatre after performances

We can accommodate 1-4 volunteers for performances on our UnitedHealth Group stage and 1-2 volunteers for performances on our Cargill Stage. Volunteer shifts begin one hour before the scheduled show time. You will receive an email confirmation when you have been scheduled and informed where you will need to report for your performance.

Dress code for volunteer ushers is:

  • White dress shirt (please no t-shirts)
  • Black pants or black skirt
  • Comfortable shoes (no heels or open-toed shoes)
  • Sweaters are fine, though we do prefer white or black sweaters.

REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must have access to reliable transportation. Volunteers must be available beginning one hour before show time extending through one hour after shows have concluded. Volunteer ushering requires you to be on your feet and able to move up and down stairs. Some light lifting may be required.

To become a volunteer usher, please check out the public performance dates for the play(s) that you are interested in and email Thomas Rohde at trohde@childrenstheatre.org with several performance options. Scheduling is based on availability when the performances are requested. If the performance already has scheduled volunteers we will try to schedule you in another performance.

PRE-PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTE
This four-year program prepares young actors for college and professional theatre careers. Highlights include: intensive acting and musical theatre training with industry professionals, annual spring showcase, mainstage audition opportunities, mentorship from Peter Brosius and other CTC artists, college-audition preparation, and capstone project tailored to student’s strengths and learning goals. Students entering Grade 9 are eligible to audition. For complete information click here.

Volunteers

Welcome to Volunteer Services! We invite you to join our volunteer program that makes up our volunteer team. Your unique talents and personal experience coupled with our CTC employees help, maintains quality services and help carry out our mission every day in the communities we serve.

Age limit
Our minimum age for volunteers is 16 (12 years of age when accompanied by an adult). When the performance being presented is recommended for teen audiences, minimum volunteering age is 14 years old when accompanied by an adult.

  • Sweaters are fine

Annie Auditions

It’s a goose-bump-inducing, gorgeous production that fills the stage and the hearts of everyone who watches it. Times are tough, spirits are low, and the world is in dire need of hope. Enter, stage left: a delightful underdog — a cute, yet mischievously feisty little girl. She takes on the world and, with an equal share of moxie and music, unlocks hearts and changes lives through kindness, love, and spirit.

AUDITION DETAILS

  • CTC's Annie artistic team will be auditioning for all student actor roles in Annie.  Youth ages 10-18 Interested in auditioning for Annie will do all of the following:

o   Upon sign-up will be placed in a group of 10-15 students

o   Students will be given a song to sing in their group and will have time to sing individually with our Music Director, Victor Zupanc.

o   Following singing, students will participate in an exercise of improv with our Director of Annie, Peter Rothstein.

  • Callbacks will take place on Monday, August 12th from 3-8PM and Wednesday, August 14th 3-8PM.Please be prepared for these dates in the case you are invited to one of these callbacks.Notice of Callback will go out the night of August 11th.

AUDITION SIGN-UP

  • Sign-up link for Annie Auditions will go up on Friday, July 26th.

o   You will sign-up through a Airtable link that will bring you to an information form.

o   Once you have sign-up, you will receive an email prior to your audition about reminder details on what to expect.

o   Please take a moment and fill out our Auditions Form, Conflicts Form (run dates of Annie below),  and Photo/Video Waiver Form all on the right side of this page highlighted in blue.  PLEASE NOTE.  Do not submit forms online and please bring to the audition directly.  If you have any issues printing, then please email your forms to auditions@childrenstheatre.org before Wednesday, August 7th at 5:00PM.

  • Both August 10th and 11th will take place at CTC in our Rehearsal Hall 3M space on the 4th Floor, near the South side of the building along Third Avenue.

Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds Auditions

Musical Direction by Sanford Moore

Ziggy’s afraid to leave the house. He’s too busy worrying about tropical storms, evil spirits, and a sneaky, freaky, hair-grabbing Duppy! But, with the help of some feathered friends, Ziggy learns “every little thing is gonna be alright.” A musical that jams Jamaican style, it’s a timeless tale of peace and love, and of course, Bob Marley, man.

Things to Know About the Show

  • This is a musical featuring the music of Bob Marley, performed by a small group of actor/dancer/singers.
  • This show is based on the book Three Little Birds written by Bob Marley’s daughter, Cedella Marley.
  • Jamaican dialect and phrases are used. Characters use phrases and count in multiple languages including Spanish, Swahili, Chinese, and Hindi!

Children’s Theatre Company is looking for actors of color for this audition call.  See below for more details:

  • 1-minute monologue (comedic monologue preferred, but not required)

  • (Youth role) Ziggy – a timid boy with long dreadlocks – 11 (played by a youth 11-18 years)
  • (Adult Role) Duppy - an evil spirit bird with a head full of human hair taken from children, 30’s

Internships

Children's Theatre Company (CTC) is committed to providing exceptional internship opportunities for the next generation of artists, educators and administrators. Through our program develop the tools you will need to move forward in your chosen field – observing, training, and collaborating with dedicated professionals at the largest children's theatre in America. Gain invaluable experience, build your resume, make connections, and have the option of earning college credits.

TIME COMMITMENT: CTC offers short-term and long-term internships ranging from just a few weeks to an entire season broken out between the Fall/Winter/Spring and Summer.  Please see individual internship postings for specific date requirements. It is recommended that persons interested in these positions apply anywhere from one to six months prior to their availability, depending on the specific internship for which they are applying.  

COMPENSATION: CTC interns are compensated with complimentary tickets, professional development and networking opportunities such as staff meetings, meet-and-greets, artist hours, and more.

SUMMER INTERNSHIPS OFFERED: Stage Management, Sound, Assistant Sound Board Operator, Assistant Lighting Design, Electrics, Assistant Director, Assistant Choreographer, Development, Properties, Costumes, Graphic Design, Marketing & Communications, Illustratration, Arts Administration, Finance, and Education (Theatre Arts Training). QUALIFICATIONS: CTC offers internships for college and graduate level students as well as early career professionals with a range of experience from very beginning to advanced skill level.
