Educate, challenge, and inspire your students at North America’s premier theatre for young audiences! Children’s Theatre Company offers Student Matinee performances for school groups. Theatre field trips indulge the imagination and enrich literature & arts curriculum.

Student Matinee tickets are priced to be affordable for school groups. Every Student Matinee performance includes a Q&A with cast & crew, and educators are provided with classroom resources.

Day of Performance

Before you arrive

  • Check the Audience Guide for a synopsis of the show and classroom activities to connect your field trip to your classwork.
  • Double check your tickets when they arrive in the mail. If you have not received tickets in the mail within one week of your scheduled performance, please call Student Matinee Coordinator at 612.872.5166.
  • For information on directions and parking, see Plan Your Visit.

When you arrive:
All Weekday Student Matinee performances begin at 10:30 a.m. Plan to arrive between 9:30 and 10:15 a.m.

1 Check in begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Children’s Theatre Ticket Office window.
Your entire school group must be present before you check in.
Get a final head count of adults and students present day of show.
2 Check in at CTC Ticket Office window.
Provide your final head count.
Purchase Lap Passes ($5 each).
Receive Check In Pass.
3 Present Check In Pass to usher to be added to seating queue.
Usher will assign seats in order of group arrival, according to seats available in theatre.
4 Performance begins at 10:30 a.m.
Every Weekday Student Matinee performance features a brief (10- to 15-minute) “Post-Show Artist Talk Back” with one actor and one crew member.

 

Seating for Weekday Student Matinees is assigned by CTC ushers in order of group arrival. We cannot guarantee that families or friends within your group will be seated side-by-side as your group may be split between rows.

Lunch Space

CTC offers a limited number of lunch reservation spaces for schools that come from a great distance, schools combining a trip to CTC with a trip to MIA, or schools that will miss lunch while at CTC.

There is a $25 non-refundable fee to reserve lunch space.

The lunch space, located in our lobbies, allows for a picnic style lunch on the floor. CTC does not provide tables, chairs, or refrigeration for lunches. Garbage cans are provided. You may request to reserve lunch space following your performance on your original Ticket Request Form.

Please note:
  • No food or beverages are allowed in the theatre. (Please inform an usher if you or a student have a health concern.)
  • Concessions are not available for purchase during Weekday Student Matinees.
  • The lunch space is available for 45 minutes immediately following your performance.
  • School groups must use the trash bins designated by the theatre to dispose of all trash before leaving the space.
  • For the health and safety of people with severe allergies, please ask everyone in your party to pack a lunch that is nut free.
