Acting 1

Develop clear and expressive physicality and vocal technique. Through improvisation and short scenes, use those skills to take risks, make strong character choices, develop character relationships, and pursue objectives. We recommend students take this class more than once, as this training builds the foundation for many of our higher-level courses.

Broadway Dance Jr.

Learn fundamental musical theatre techniques in jazz and modern dance. Put your new skills into action through choreography and performance, exploring favorite musicals such as The Greatest Showman, School of Rock, and Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical.

Broadway Voice Jr.

Explore the fundamentals of proper vocal technique, including healthy warm-ups, breath support, control, pitch, diction, and projection. Apply these new skills to favorite Broadway tunes and contemporary pop hits.

World Premiere

Work with your ensemble to put your own spin on a favorite story, character, or universe. Through acting exercises, group brainstorm, and improvisation, students will create a world premiere studio play.

Theatre Magic (Grades K – 5)

Costumes and lighting and scenery, oh my! Follow CTC’s process of putting on the show Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds to explore a new aspect of producing a play each week. Tour our shops, look at the designs for the show, and create your own design ideas to share with our professional designers. Tuition includes one student ticket to CTC’s Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds, January 19 – March 1, 2020.

MEA Camp: Actor’s Workshop: Physical Comedy & Clown (Grades 4 – 6)

Get an introduction to physical comedy and clowning technique. Discover how to tell stories and go for the laughs without even speaking a word. Students will see a performance of Circus Abyssinia: Ethiopian Dreams on CTC’s UnitedHealth Group Stage and take a tour of the theatre.

Spring Break Camp: Create-a-Play (Grades 4 – 6)

A camp for actors who want to perform and design! Step onto the Cohen Stage—our performing space just for students—to create an original play. Learn to use the light board, create sound effects in our recording studio, and design simple costumes and props. Put all the elements together for a world premiere performance on the last day of camp.

PRE-PROFESSIONAL TRAINING for Grades 4 – 5

Our Pre-Professional Training courses are for intermediate and advanced students seriously considering a future in the arts. Students will be challenged to expand their skill set in a disciplined and technique-driven atmosphere. Students are expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment and independence and will be held to a high standard for focus, work ethic, attendance, and punctuality.

Pre-Professional classes are either a nine-week class or a four-week intensive. Students are allowed no more than one absence in a nine-week class and are allowed zero absences in a four-week intensive. All Pre-Professional offerings will have required homework between classes, such as reading articles and scripts, memorizing lines or lyrics, doing independent research, or reviewing choreography. Students who fail to meet the expectations for attendance and homework will be dismissed from class without refund.


Acting 2

Build on the skills you learned in Acting 1 by applying vocabulary and technique to scripted material.  Delve deep into next-level acting skills as you analyze text for objectives, stakes, obstacles, tactics, and playable actions.
Prerequisite: at least two sessions of Acting 1 (or by audition)

Musical Theatre

Work with a choreographer and music director to learn how to seamlessly combine healthy vocal production with dance combinations while convincingly acting the part. Challenge all three skills in the execution of ensemble numbers from beloved musicals.
Prerequisite: at least one session of Broadway Dance and one session of Broadway Voice, at any age level (or by audition)

Mainstage Musical Theatre Boot Camp (Grades 4 – 12)

This fast-paced, multidisciplinary training program focuses on the in-depth musical theatre performance skills required for student actors performing at CTC. With an emphasis on learning, retaining, and performing choreography and song, this course models the rigor, dedication, and etiquette expected in professional rehearsal spaces. The age range of this course is intentionally reflective of the typical casting for professional productions at CTC, so students will be able to practice collaborating in an ensemble with a wide age range. Students are expected to have a foundation in basic ballet and jazz vocabulary and technique. It is pre-requisite that students have a mastery of pitch, breath support, and diction. Students will be held to a high standard for focus, stamina, and work ethic. Enrollment in this boot camp does not guarantee casting in a CTC professional production.
