Postponed until Fall 2022
Best enjoyed by All Ages
Because of current visa challenges due to COVID-19 and the civil war in Ethiopia, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the return of the beloved Circus Abyssinia, originally scheduled for January 18-February 13, 2022. Circus Abyssinia will instead kick off CTC’s 2022 – 2023 Season with a six-week engagement beginning September 11, 2022.
If you hold tickets for Circus Abyssinia: Tulu, your tickets for performances scheduled in January and February will transfer to the new run dates in the fall, with no additional fees or payments necessary. You do not need to do anything at this time.
While we’re disappointed by this delay, we’re thrilled that Circus Abyssinia is available to kick off our next season and we look forward to bringing you their breathtaking and brilliant artistry in this new show.

Three Things to Know About the Show
- Circus Abyssinia’s second creation, Tulu, is a family circus backed by 70s Ethiopian funk to modern Ethio-pop and rocking with the exuberant joy of its cast.
- Tulu tells the story of the first African woman to win Olympic gold, Ethiopian distance runner and Olympic legend, Derartu Tulu. Meaning both ‘valley’ and ‘mountain heights’.
- Dancing with flags and flames, invoking the iconic Olympic rings and showcasing Ethiopia’s diverse culture, the show emulates the mesmerizing and heart-racing thrills of the race that made Derartu a star.
“With our new show, Tulu, we’ll be pulling out all the stops to celebrate the story of Ethiopian icon and Olympic legend, Derartu Tulu, the first African woman to win Olympic gold. We can’t wait to perform with the wonderful audiences of Minneapolis again!”
