Create Your Own Comic
It’s your turn to let your imagination soar just like Kate in Drawing Lessons. Print this page, grab a pencil, and use the panels to create your own comic strip. You can even get really creative by using the thought bubbles, speech bubbles, and sound effect bubbles!
Cook Together!
In Drawing Lessons, Kate’s family talks about eating kimchi. Kimchi is spicy, fermented cabbage. It is one of the most traditional foods from Korea and has become very well known in America. Use kimchi to make a delicious fried rice!
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Utensils:
- Large pan
- Wooden spoon
Ingredients:
- 3 cups of steamed rice (pre-cooked and chilled in the refrigerator)
- 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil
- 1 cup of chopped kimchi
- ¼ cup of kimchi juice (liquid from container of kimchi)
- ¼ cup of water
- *Optional: Eggs (1 egg per serving) or meat (SPAM is recommended)
Directions:
- Heat a large pan on medium heat. Add vegetable oil and heat in the pan. **If you are using meat, dice the meat and fry it in the pan for 1 minute.
- Add the kimchi and stir fry for 1 minute.
- Add in the kimchi juice and water. Stir ingredients together for 7 minutes using a wooden spoon.
- Add in the steamed rice and mix all ingredients together.
- *If you are using egg, here are two ways to incorporate it:
-
- Crack the 1 egg (per serving) into a small pan, fry it, and serve one egg on top of each portion of rice.
- Create a well (hole) in the middle of your rice by pushing the rice to the sides of the pan. Add beaten eggs into the well and scramble them as they cook. Once fully cooked, mix them into the rice.
Turn off the heat and serve immediately. Enjoy!
