In partnership with Target and the Minneapolis School District, Children's Theatre Company is providing all second grade students in the Minneapolis Public School with a field trip to attend a live theatre performance on our stage, at no cost to families or schools.

Grounded in CTC's Neighborhood Bridges philosophy and pedagogy, the Target Cultural Experiences Partnership aims to integrate theatre arts, storytelling and creative writing with existing curricula, through educator workshops, and in-class residency opportunities. The workshop and residency curriculum is aligned with both state and national theatre and English language arts standards.

As part of their commitment to give $1 billion for education by the end of 2015, Target is partnering with the Minneapolis Public School district to offer field trips sponsored by Target to children in grades 2-5. The field trips are tied to grade level curriculum and are intended to give kids the opportunity to explore the diverse cultural institutions our community has to offer, like Children's Theatre Company.

The TCEP Second Grade Field Trip to CTC includes:

  • Tickets and transportation to a Children's Theatre Company main stage production, at no cost to schools and families
  • Access to online education materials aligned with 2nd grade standards
  • Professional Development workshop for classroom teachers (90 minute regional workshops at selected school sites)

Schools may choose to participate in the Encore in-class residency program:

  • 5-session residency (each session is 90 minutes in-class)
  • Curriculum based on CTC's Neighborhood Bridges program philosophy, consisting of theatre arts, creative writing and storytelling, and tied to English Language and Theatre Arts standards
  • 3 planning sessions with teachers and teaching artists
  • Professional development resources available to teachers to enhance classroom curriculum through Bridges strategies, surrounding the themes of the production
  • $275.00 program fee per classroom
