Wish you could take Leonardo and all his friends home with you? Extend your experience with these fun activities inspired by Leonardo! A Wonderful Show About a Terrible Monster.
Make a Monster
Leonardo introduces us to his monster friends: Tony uses his 1,642 teeth, Eleanor uses her giant-like size, and Hector uses his plain old weirdness to scare people. Leonardo wishes he were scary, like his monster friends. Follow the directions below to make your own scary (or not scary) monster!
You will need:
- Paper
- Colored pencils or markers
- One die (or a pair of dice, if you want)
- Print this page to fill out the tables
Directions:
Once you have everything you need, use the list on your printout or copy the list below to figure out what your scary monster will look like. Roll the die to determine how many of each body part your scary monster has:
BODY PARTS—HOW MANY?
- Heads
- Torsos
- Legs
- Arms
- Mouths
- Eyes
Now, roll the die to figure out if your monster has any accessories! If you roll an EVEN number (2, 4, 6) your answer is YES. If you roll an ODD number (1, 2, 3) your answer is NO. If you rolled a YES, roll your die once more to see how many of that accessory your monster has.
ACCESSORIES—YES/NO & HOW MANY?
- Spikes
- Horns
- Teeth
- Hairs
- Tails
- Claws
Now that you know all the parts that your monster has, draw it on your piece of paper! Use any colors you like and don’t forget to give your scary monster a name!
Kid-friendly Tuna Salad
Leonardo says he wants to “scare the Tuna Salad” out of someone to prove how scary he is! Well, let’s make some Tuna Salad. But make sure not to let any monsters scare it out of you!
Ingredients
- Three 5-oz cans tuna, drained (can opened/drained by an adult)
- ¼ cup of mayonnaise
- ¼-½ cup of mild salsa
- 5-10 crackers of your choice
Instructions
- After an adult has opened your tuna and put it in a colander, use a spatula to press any moisture out of the tuna.
- Then, in a large bowl, combine drained tuna, mayonnaise, and salsa. Mix with the spatula.
- Set the tuna salad in the fridge for 15-20 minutes to chill.
- Serve chilled tuna salad on top of crackers or with your favorite veggies. Enjoy!
Optional—Mix and match other ingredients to make your tuna recipe special! You could try peppers, onions, celery, hard-boiled egg, or salt and pepper/other seasonings. Add anything else you like to make the tuna salad to your tastes and preferences.
Monster Tag
Round up some friends to play monster tag! Do you think Leonardo would play with Tony, Eleanor, and Hector?
Directions:
- Make sure you have lots of open space and remove anything you might trip on from the ground. A backyard would be a great place to play!
- Set up a boundary with cones or a rope. Everyone will be staying within the boundary during the game.
- The person who is “it” will be the “monster.” The monster can either be blindfolded or just close their eyes.
- All players will stay within the boundaries while the monster wanders around trying to catch players. When the monster moans or growls, the players will also moan or growl and extend their arms. This is how the monster will find the other players. When a player gets tagged, they become the next monster.
