Posted on January 11, 2025

Get ready for a fantastical journey with Leonardo! A Wonderful Show About a Terrible Monster. This exciting production is packed with unexpected surprises, from its unique musical influences to the incredible sound design that brings the story to life. The show’s imaginative take on storytelling will leave audiences in awe, offering a fresh, fun twist on a classic monster story. In this OffBook post, we share three fascinating aspects of the show that might surprise you!

1. The three monster bullies are loosely based on the bullies from Karate Kid (1984). The monster-bullies theme was inspired by the original soundtrack from the film.

2. The composers describe the musical genre as synth pop. The music in the show is influenced by Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time, Jon Brion’s film score for I Heart Huckabees, and Roland’s classic drum machines like the TR707! The Why I Am Crying songs were inspired by Radiohead’s “Creep”.

3. There are over 100 individual sound effects that are manually cued throughout the show! Many of the sounds have surprising origins. For instance, the sound of a butterfly in the show is actually made from recordings of paper, and the spider is actually the sound of a squeaky wheel.
